Where to eat on Nusa Penida

    Penida's food scene is small but growing fast. Here's the shortlist we actually send our guests to.

    Clifftop restaurants

    A handful of new-generation restaurants perched on the west and south cliffs — think grilled fish, cold cocktails, and a 200-metre drop to the sea. Best at sunset. Reservations essential in high season; we book on your behalf.

    Local warungs

    The soul of the island. Nasi campur, mie goreng, sate lilit — plates for a few dollars, cooked fresh, no menu in English. Ask us for the two or three we send our guests to on repeat.

    Cafés & brunch

    A small cluster of Western-style cafés has appeared around Ped and Toyapakeh — flat whites, açaí bowls, decent bread. Useful for a slow morning before a beach day.

    Sunset bars

    Amok Sunset, the bar at Crystal Bay, and one or two newer spots on the west coast. Come early, order the cocktail, stay for the sky.
